What is an ideal weight?

Lately I have been thinking a lot about this question. I know I am still far away from my ideal weight, but honestly I have no idea, of what my ideal weight even should be?! I haven’t been under 100kg for the past 3 years. I don’t know how I feel or look when I am under 90 kg haven’t been there for the past 6 years and under 80kg, who would I even be with that weight!
It has for the past 8 years been my dream to get under the 70kg (154lbs). Now I am wondering if this is even realistic, or if my weight should be lower or higher? I am 181cm (5,9 feet) tall.

If I calculate my BMI being 70kg and 181cm tall my BMI would be 21,37. With that weight I would be right in the middle of the “normal weight”.  But then my issue I am not really a big fan of the BMI. I mean it doesn’t calculate how much fat or muscles you got or anything. It just has 2 stupid numbers and then Wola here is your “normal” weight!

I am still not sure what my target weight is gonna be. First big goal is to hit the 80kg (176lbs) and after that I guess I will have to look in the mirror and try to feel and see if I like what I see.  It is my biggest dream to fit into a size 38 European size! Oh well we will see when we get there. It is my fear, that even if my weight was 70kg, I would still see the same reflection from the mirror as I do now.  This has been my issue when I lost weight before, that I didn’t realized it and still felt amazingly fat. I won’t let that happen this time. I will use my progress picture as a reminder of what I use to look like. :) Soon I will be under the 100kg which mean new progress pictures!! =)

What have you guys been doing to find your ideal weight? Or is someone out there having the same feeling as me?! :)

  1. Hey hon! Well as you know I've been having issues defining my ideal weight and that's why I think it was a good idea to go to a specialist and ask for her opinion. I'll know next week what she considers logical.

There are several things the BMI doesn't take into account: sex, genetics, bone structure, clinical history, etc. I don't think it's a bad guidance to know around where you should be but it's not a precise tool to decide your 'proper' weight.

I have tons of issues acknowledging my weight loss as something huge. Even when I look at my progress pictures I always think the same thing "The fact that I'm better doesn't mean that I'm fine". I feel toning up my body will show a difference in the way I look at myself and also being done with the weight loss and only needing to maintain my weight stable will be different. Hopefully for good.

    xx

    1. Good morning honey! :D

I agree with you. Though I have the fear that a lot of people who use to be big never will acknowledge there weight loss.
Therefor I think it is important to listen to other as maybe they see something you don't see yourself! :) I am sure I can see your weight loss much more than you can. just like I am sure you in 2 WEEKS!!! (YEAHHHHH) will be able to see my weight loss better than I do.

      Love you

  2. I love that you wrote about this, because I thinks its something EVERYONE struggles with.

I remember when I was only 15, I weighed 120lbs. I did a BMI with my height (being 5'2) on my health teachers bmi calculator. It said I was OVERWEIGHT.

Now I would give ANYTHING to weigh 120 again!!!

I do know when I had allot of muscle, when I was into competitive cheer, I weighed between 110-115 and I looked AWESOME

So right now that is my goal weight, to weigh like 115 and have a bunch of muscle.

Unfortunately for me, being short, I am "supposed" to weigh 100-110 lbs.

    THAT IS NOT REALISTIC.

Thanks for writing about this today. I had a little too much fun writing my feelings in this here comment lol!
    Have a awesome day!
    xoxo

  3. I'm with you on the BMI - if I went for my idea weight according to that, I'd be less than 13stone (80kg). That's too low for me; I think about 85-88 is good for me, then I can look at building muscle.

I suppose with weight goals it's whatever you feel healthy in, but it's always good to get a doctor's recommendation too.

    1. I totally agree with you. Specially the BMI for male is WEIRD!! How can anyone find it smart to use the same calculation for both male and female?!!

Haha Hate to the BMI :)

      Have an amazing weeek =)

  4. I have the same problem. I'm only 1,69 cm and with the BMI, am I suppose to be between 53-71 kg.

My goal is 75 kg, and when I'm closer my goal, I can proberly see and hear from friends, if I can go lower.

I deam about beeing "Normal", but I know, that the BMI only is a tool to decide your 'proper' weight - not a guideline.
